WEIGHT LOSS PEPTIDES – SEMAGLUTIDE AND TIRZEPATIDE
GLP-1/B12 WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogs that were approved in 2020 as a treatment method for improving glycemic control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. This type of peptide shows great promise for patients who are having difficulty losing weight. Studies have demonstrated that Semaglutide and Tirzepatide reduced appetite, improved control of eating, and reduced food cravings in addition to improved glycemic control. The greatest weight loss benefits were observed when Semaglutide is used in combination with lifestyle changes, such as improved diet and consistent exercise.
How does Semaglutide and Tirzepatide work?
GLP-1 is a hormone produced in the small intestine that stimulates insulin secretion and inhibits glucagon secretion, thereby lowering blood sugar. The injections have demonstrated beneficial effects on glycemia, in addition to a host of other benefits.
Reported Benefits:
- Weight Loss
- Neuroprotective
- Improved Fertility
- Treatment of PCOS
- Smoking Cessation
- Cardiovascular Benefits
How much do I inject?
Your provider will give you specific teaching with injection and dosing at your first appointment, and most likely your dose will taper up over time.
How should Semaglutide or Tirzepatide be injected?
Both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are applied as a subcutaneous injection. The dosage is tapered up as directed and tolerated. This medication is generally well-tolerated and can be dosed continuously without breaking treatment with no diminishing effects.
Side effects/contraindications:
The most commonly reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, diarrhea, stomach pain, and constipation. B12 is combined with both GLP-1 Peptides at our sterile, compounding pharmacies to help reduce nausea and maintain energy. We use the highest quality compounding pharmacies that do not include any additives in the medications. The risk of serious side effects increases in patients with hypoglycemia, kidney problems, history of Thyroid cancer, and pancreatic insufficiency.
What is the Difference Between Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?
Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound. Tirzepatide works on two receptors as opposed to one that semaglutide affects. Tirzepatide is a dual agonist for the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) AND glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) . Typically, Semaglutide is the best starting point for patients. If there is a plateau in weight loss after ample time, or if side effects are not tolerable, Tirzepatide is a good second option. According to a study in Medical News Today “Patients on tirzepatide were over two times more likely to experience 10% weight loss and three times more likely to experience 15% weight loss within a year, compared to patients on semaglutide. Our study also found that, in general, patients without type 2 diabetes experienced greater weight loss than patients with type 2 diabetes, but tirzepatide was more effective than semaglutide in both groups.” Tirzepatide can be tapered to a much higher dose, which comes with a higher cost.
